Homemade Cinnamon Quick Bread

A simple, easy, and delicious quick bread for anytime you need a little sweet in your life.

Cinnamon Quick Bread is a warm and delightful breakfast or snack option for families. It's a perfect choice for a busy holiday morning or as part of a leisurely brunch with its comforting flavors and simplicity.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

It's Family and Kid-Friendly: Cinnamon Quick Bread is a hit with both kids and adults. Its warm, comforting flavors and soft texture make it a crowd-pleaser for the entire family.

Perfect for Any Season: While cinnamon bread is delightful year-round, it truly shines during the fall and winter months. The cozy aroma of cinnamon wafting through your kitchen will instantly put you in the holiday spirit.

Quick and Convenient: Preparation Quick breads live up to their name—they're quick to make and require no yeast or kneading. This recipe is a lifesaver on busy mornings or when you're hosting brunch and need a delightful dish without spending hours in the kitchen. If you want to make it as a fresh breakfast treat, assemble the ingredients the night before, have the pan greased and ready to go, and you'll be able to serve the warm bread in about 90 minutes.

Tips for Quick Bread Success

Making Cinnamon Quick Bread is a breeze, but a few tips can help you achieve perfection every time:

1. Preheat Your Oven: Ensure your oven is fully preheated to 350°F before you start. This ensures even baking and a perfectly risen loaf.

2. Proper Mixing: When mixing the wet and dry ingredients, don't overmix. Just combine them until the ingredients are incorporated. Overmixing can lead to a dense loaf.

3. Marble the Cinnamon: When adding the cinnamon-sugar mixture, don't just sprinkle it on top. Use a knife to gently swirl it through the batter, creating beautiful cinnamon swirls throughout the bread.

4. Cooling Time: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps it set and makes for easier slicing. I like to let this bread cool completely before cutting because it holds together best when cool.  The cinnamon bread is also delicious the next day so don't be afraid to bake it in advance.  Just wrap it well in plastic wrap to keep it moist and tasty.

5. Storage: To keep your Cinnamon Quick Bread fresh, wrap it well in plastic wrap or foil. It can be stored at room temperature for a few days or in the fridge for a longer shelf life.

How to Make Cinnamon Quick Bread

Homemade cinnamon bread is made with common baking ingredients:
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.  Lightly grease a 9x5x2 inch loaf pan, and set aside.

In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon, and set aside.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar.  Combine well.

In a separate bowl (I like to use a 2-cup glass measuring cup), mix together the milk, oil, and egg.  Beat this mixture with a fork to break it up and combine the egg.  Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir to combine.

Spread half of the batter in the loaf pan.  Sprinkle with half of the cinnamon mixture.  Repeat with the remaining batter and cinnamon mixture.

Draw a knife through the mixture both lengthwise and across to marble the cinnamon mixture throughout.

Bake for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out cleanly. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes and then completely on a wire wrack.  Wrap well in plastic wrap or foil.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour?
Yes, you can substitute whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour to make a healthier version. Just keep in mind that the bread may have a slightly denser texture. I recommend only partially replacing the all-purpose flour for a lighter texture.

Can I add nuts or raisins to this recipe?
Absolutely! Feel free to customize your Cinnamon Quick Bread by adding chopped nuts, raisins, or even chocolate chips for an extra layer of flavor and texture.

Can I make this bread in advance for a special occasion?
A3: Yes, you can prepare this bread a day in advance and store it wrapped in plastic wrap or foil. It will still be delicious and moist when served.
