Did you know that people are starting to explore cheeses much the same way as they explore wines and that interest is specialty cheeses is soaring? That's one thing I learned by talking with Cathi Fournier, the proprietor of Milk and Honey Bazaar, an artisanal cheese and specialty foods market, located in Tiverton, Rhode Island. My friend, Robin and I visited this lovely shop one day last week to explore the world of specialty cheeses.
This tiny shop carries over one hundred varieties of cheese and Cathi encourages you to try before you buy. I was looking for cheese to make "grown up" grilled cheese sandwiches so Cathi brought out a sampling of cheeses that would melt well.
We tried several cheeses and bought a sampling of those we tried.
My cheeses were all cows milk cheeses: Fromage D'Affinois, from France, Parrano, from Holland, Cotswold Double Gloucester Chive, from England and one local cheese, Atwells Gold-a cheddar made by Narragansett Creamery in Rhode Island.
Robin surprised me the next day with a lovely array of cheese and appetizers she called her tribute to Just One Donna.
First she served two of the cheeses from Milk and Honey Bazaar. One was a goat cheese we topped with prosciutto and caramelized onions. The other was the Cotswold Double Gloucester Chive cheese. Next she served jalapeno poppers and guacamole.
The tribute to Just One Donna was that Robin made the caramelized onions, jalapeno poppers and guacamole with recipes that have been shared here on the Just One Donna blog. Of course, Robin made some substitutions because she was determined to make the recipes using what she already had in her refrigerator and pantry. Everything was a success and very delicious.
Wasn't Robin a sweetheart to use those cheeses for a Just One Donna tribute? It is a gift to have such a thoughtful friend. She has been my friend since first grade...and that's a very long time!
We very much enjoyed the cheeses from Milk and Honey Bazaar. Thanks to Cathi for her suggestions. Hubby and I enjoyed the Fromage D'Affinois this weekend. It is so creamy, similar to a brie, but better. We also finished off our wedge of the Cotswold Double Gloucester Chive cheese. It is packed with creamy, delicious flavor.
If you find yourself in Tiverton, Rhode Island be sure to stop in and sample Milk and Honey Bazaar's delicious cheeses. Please tell Cathi I said hi. You can also check the Milk and Honey Bazaar online store.
Have you started to explore specialty cheeses? Are there any kinds that you particularly like? I plan to continue seeking delicious cheeses. I'd love to hear about any of your favorites.
Enjoy!
