It's Friday! It's time to think about Pizza Night. Tonight we are having a favorite-Caramelized Onion, Prosciutto and Ricotta Cheese Pizza. This pizza is made with my homemade ricotta cheese. If you haven't tried making ricotta cheese at home yet, please do. You won't believe how delicious this pizza is! Let's make it together.
Caramelized Onion, Prosciutto and Ricotta Cheese Pizza
Ingredients
Early in the day, prepare your pizza dough, and ricotta cheese.
Cut onion in half and slice thinly. Heat butter in large frying pan over medium heat. Add onion, cayenne, salt & pepper and saute for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium low and cook, stirring occasionally for 20 minutes more, until onions are browned and caramelized. Set aside to cool.
Place your pizza stone on the bottom rack of the oven. Preheat your oven to 500°F. Place the pizza dough on parchment paper and form into a round. I use my fingers to press the dough into shape.
Next sprinkle on a little bit of olive oil. Not too much, this is just for an added taste dimension.
Now it's time to add your very delicioso homemade ricotta cheese. Just put dollops all over the pizza.
If you don't have homemade ricotta cheese you can use store bought ricotta, or sliced fresh mozzarella cheese. Both will work.
Next, spread the caramelized onions around the pizza.
Then it is time to add the prosciutto. Six or eight slices should do it, but use as much as you want. It is going to get crispy as the pizza cooks.
This pizza is also delicious cut into squares and served as an appetizer.
