Grilled Peaches with Caramel Ice Cream

When I saw the beautiful, local peaches at the store this week I had to buy some.  The weather has been so hot that baking dessert in the oven was not what I wanted to do. I decided to grill my peaches for dessert.  This grilled peaches dessert was so quick and easy that I wanted to share it with you in time for your Labor Day barbecues.

Simple ingredients for grilled peaches dessert.
Grilled Peaches-The Simple Ingredients
Grilled Peaches with Caramel Ice Cream

Serves 4
  • 2 firm, ripe peaches
  • 2 Tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, melted
  • Caramel ice cream
  • Caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream

Directions
Start 30-60 minutes before grilling.  Cut the peaches in half and remove the pit.  In a small bowl mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.  Pour the cinnamon mixture onto a plate,  Brush the cut side of the peaches with melted butter.

Place the buttered side of each peach into the cinnamon mixture, leaving the peach face down on the plate for 30-60 minutes.

Heat your grill.  Place the cut side of the peaches onto the hot grill.  Leave them there to grill for 5-8 minutes, until you have grill marks and the sugar has started to caramelize.

Turn the peaches over to grill, skin side down for another 3 minutes.  If you have any leftover sugar on the plate, scoop it onto the top of the peaches.

The grill times are approximate and depend on how ripe your peaches are.  Use a knife to check for doneness. The peaches are ready when the knife inserts easily, with no resistance.

Serve your peaches warm, with caramel ice cream and whipped cream.  Drizzle with the caramel sauce.  What a delicious end to summer!
