Delightfully Delicious Shrimp Dip

Today we're making shrimp dip but it's not just any shrimp dip.  It's a remake of the shrimp dip my mom used to make regularly for friends and family.  It may have been the ultimate in semi-homemade recipes because it couldn't have been easier with just two ingredients!

Amazing Homemade Shrimp Dip

The throwback shrimp dip was made with a brick of cream chees and two jars of shrimp cocktail that came in little jars from the grocery store and we loved it!  This recipe recreates that dip. My recipe starts with homemade cocktail sauce so you'll use just a few more ingredients.  This is still an amazingly easy recipe but you control the ingredients.  So let's get started!

Why You'll Love This Shrimp Dip Recipe

It's Perfect for Busy Hosts: This recipe is a breeze to whip up, requiring minimal effort – ideal for those last-minute get-togethers or weeknight entertaining.  Just like the shrimp dip our moms used to make, it delivers big on flavor without spending hours in the kitchen!

It Brings Back Memories: The combination of zesty cocktail sauce and creamy cheese might just remind you of similar dips enjoyed at family gatherings. It's a delicious way to bring back a touch of nostalgia!

It's Big on Flavor, Easy on the Wallet: Packed with succulent shrimp and a flavorful homemade sauce, this recipe is a crowd-pleaser that won't break the bank.

It's Perfect for Seafood Lovers:  If you love shrimp, this recipe is a dream come true!  It offers a delightful combination of creamy cheese and plump, tender shrimp in every bite.

How to Make This Retro Shrimp Dip

You'll need just a few simple ingredients to make a homemade cocktail sauce:
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup, chili sauce, or a combination
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp hot sauce, your favorite
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1-1 1/2 T prepared horseradish
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp onion powder
  • 8 ounces of cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 cup chopped, cooked shrimp
  • Tip: Reserve a few shrimp to garnish the dip

Combine the cocktail sauce with the cream cheese, add the shrimp, and chill!
Don't forget the crackers and chips.

Tips and Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use pre-cooked shrimp?

Absolutely! Pre-cooked, frozen, or thawed shrimp work perfectly in this recipe. If using frozen, be sure to thaw them completely and pat them dry before chopping. You may also use canned shrimp, too!

What kind of hot sauce should I use?

The beauty of this recipe is customization! Choose your favorite hot sauce, depending on your desired level of spice. For a milder dip, my preference is sriracha or Tabasco. If you crave a kick, try a habanero or ghost pepper hot sauce.

Can I substitute the cream cheese?

For a dairy-free alternative, try using softened vegan cream cheese.  It may alter the taste slightly, but it can still be a delicious option.

How far ahead can I make this dip?

This shrimp dip is perfect for making ahead! Simply combine all ingredients and refrigerate up to 24 hours before serving.  Give it a stir before serving to ensure everything is well-combined.

What should I serve with the shrimp dip?

For a retro experience, I recommend Ritz crackers and potato chips with ridges. This recipe pairs well with a variety of dippers. Here are some other ideas:

* Crackers (wheat thins, water crackers, or Triscuits)
* Sliced vegetables (celery, bell peppers, carrots, or cucumbers)
* Toasted baguette slices
* Pita bread slices

Enjoy this easy and delicious shrimp dip at your next gathering!

Artisan Bread in Your Bread Machine

Finally. Artisan Bread from Your Bread Machine Yes, Really. If you want to make artisan-style bread using your bread machine, the secret is simple: use the dough cycle, then bake the loaf in a preheated Dutch oven. This method gives you a crisp crust and chewy crumb without any hand kneading. If you use your bread machine regularly, you already know what it does well. It mixes, kneads, and handles the first rise beautifully. It is a dependable helper in the kitchen. What it does not do especially well is produce that deep golden, crackly crust we associate with artisan bread. The good news is you do not need to give up the ease of your bread machine to get that result. You simply need to change how the bread is baked. Today I’m showing you how to use your bread machine’s dough cycle and bake the loaf in a Dutch oven for a crusty, bakery-style result.
