Grilled Beef Tips in a Savory Marinade

It's grilling season!

During the heat of the summer, my grill works overtime and I'm happy to find marinades that turn a simple grilled beef dinner into a delicious treat.  This savory beef marinade is our favorite for beef tips. While I use this marinade for my grilled beef tips, you can use it for any cut of beef you want to marinate.

What Are Beef Tips?

You might be wondering what exactly are beef tips?  The beef tips I buy at my local grocery store are tenderloin tips.  They are pieces of beef cut from beef tenderloins that are being trimmed. Unfortunately, this is not standard across the United States, so your best bet is to ask what cut your beef tips come from at your local market.

I like to buy beef tips to keep on hand because they are versatile and a quick and easy dinner for the grill.

Occasionally, you will have to trim your beef tips to remove a bit of silver skin that may be left on them.  Just make a quick check to see if there are any tough little bits and cut them off.

You can leave the beef tips whole or cut them into chunks to cook on skewers.  You'll see that this recipe was made with chunks of beef.

Don't forget to allow time to for your skewers to soak in water if you are using ones made from bamboo.  That will help to keep them from burning to pieces on your grill.

The Reasons You'll Love This Beef Marinade

Savory Beef Marinade for Grilling
Savory Beef Marinade
This savory marinade will make your beef tasty even after just one hour of marinating, but the flavors deepen the longer you marinate your beef.  I like to marinate my beef tips for three to six hours for the tastiest results.

The Best Beef Marinade
The marinade is quick to assemble.  You may already have the ingredients on hand.  I like to use rosemary in this marinade.  A little goes a long way and it holds up well to grilling.  If you don't like rosemary, substitute thyme or oregano.  Fresh is best, but dried will work as well.  Just decrease the amount of dried herbs by approximately half when substituting them for fresh.

Fresh vegetables complement this dish. These grilled beef tips pair well with a fresh garden salad for a satisfying meal whenever summer's heat keeps you out of the kitchen.  I also like them with a medley of roasted vegetables like onions, zucchini, eggplant, red peppers, and green peppers.  The colors of the vegetables will make your dinner plate look as good as it will taste.

Your Tips for Grilled Beef Tips Success

Let the marinade do the work.  You really want to give the marinade some time to flavor your beef so prepare early in the day.

Prepare your grill.
You'll want a nice hot fire for success.  Give your grill time to preheat.

Don't overcook your beef.  The marinade can't fix overcooked food.

Coffee and Dessert-A Perfect Pairing

Coffee and dessert go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly, night and day, or Thelma and Louise. I've teamed up with three blogging friends who love coffee and dessert as much as I do to bring you three of their favorite fall desserts to pair with three specialty coffee drinks I've made in the Ninja Coffee Bar System. The Keurig is sitting on a shelf in my basement, the French press is on a high shelf in the kitchen and the Cuisinart sits in my beverage center waiting for me to return to it while I take the Ninja Coffee Bar System for a test drive.   I have...
