While in Florida a month or two ago I had the most delicious grapefruit martini at a restaurant. We asked for the recipe, but the bartender was vague wanting to keep the proprietary concoction under wraps. Ever since I've been wanting to recreate the flavors of that martini. You know what I mean, don't you? Sometimes you get something stuck in your brain and it just won't go away.
Well, earlier this week I made a Pan Seared Cod with Citrus Salad that got me thinking about the flavors in that grapefruit martini. It would be a great addition to share during Citrus Week here on Just One Donna.
Unfortunately, I would definitely not be able to recreate the original martini, but I thought I could make myself a tasty impostor.
Voila! The Citrus Zing Martini was born.
Serves 1
Directions
Early in the day make your citrus syrup by combining 6 ounces of orange juice and 6 ounces of grapefruit juice in a small pan. Heat the juices to boiling and reduce to simmer. Simmer the juices until reduced to 4 ounces. Set aside to cool.
Prepare your martini glass. Mix together orange decorating sugar and raw sugar on a flat plate. With your finger, run a bit of the citrus syrup around the rim of the glass. Roll the rim in the sugar mixture and set aside to dry.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add all the ingredients and shake until the cocktail shaker is frosty. Pour into your prepared martini glass.
If you are a citrus lover like me, this cocktail is for you.
Enjoy responsibly!
