If you’ve never made ice cream from scratch, now’s the perfect time to start. Making strawberry ice cream at home is easier than you might think, and the reward is a creamy, fruit-packed treat that tastes like summer in every bite. Skip the store-bought tubs and embrace the real-deal flavor of ripe strawberries, fresh cream, and just the right touch of sweetness.

Why You'll Love Making Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

Sure, it’s easy to grab a carton of strawberry ice cream from the freezer aisle, but homemade? Oh, it’s in a league of its own. Here’s why this recipe will become a summertime favorite:

🍓 Peak Season Flavor – Fresh strawberries are the star of this show, and their natural sweetness and vibrant flavor shine through.

🍓 Simple Ingredients, No Preservatives – You control what goes into your ice cream — no artificial flavors, colors, or long, hard-to-pronounce ingredients here.

🍓 Creamy and Customizable – Make it as rich or as light as you like. Add extra strawberries for more fruit, or swirl in a touch of vanilla ice cream for a flavor twist.

🍓 A Fun Kitchen Project – Making ice cream at home is both satisfying and surprisingly easy, especially with an ice cream maker. It’s a great way to involve kids or grandkids, too!

How to Make Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

Jump to Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Strawberries in a colander, heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and vanilla on a counter .1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 3/4 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup whole milk

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Chop the Strawberries
Chop the strawberries to the consistency you desire in a food processor, food chopper, or blender. For a chunkier ice cream, pulse a few times to leave small pieces of strawberry intact.

  2. Make the Ice Cream Base
In a large pitcher or mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar dissolves.

  3. Combine and Chill
Stir the strawberry puree into the cream mixture. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled. Overnight is even better!

  4. Churn
Once chilled, pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Usually, this takes about 20-25 minutes.  I use a simple-to-operate Cuisinart ice cream maker that you can get here.

  5. Freeze to Firm Up
If you prefer soft-serve style, you can enjoy the ice cream straight from the churn. For a firmer, scoopable texture, transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for 2-4 hours before serving.

Scoop, Serve, and Savor!

There you have it — a creamy, dreamy, homemade strawberry ice cream that celebrates the best of the season. Serve it in a cone, a bowl, or sandwiched between two shortbread cookies for an extra-special treat.

Coffee and Dessert-A Perfect Pairing

Coffee and dessert go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly, night and day, or Thelma and Louise. I've teamed up with three blogging friends who love coffee and dessert as much as I do to bring you three of their favorite fall desserts to pair with three specialty coffee drinks I've made in the Ninja Coffee Bar System. I was very excited to receive this Ninja Coffee Bar System (Model CF092) to review.  I am by no means a coffee snob but I do like a good cup of coffee.  I also like a coffee maker that is easy to use and can be depended on to produce a consistent cup of coffee day in and day-out.  In the past few years, I have used a Keurig single-serving system, a French press, and a Cuisinart drip coffee maker. The Keurig is sitting on a shelf in my basement, the French press is on a high shelf in the kitchen and the Cuisinart sits in my beverage center waiting for me to return to it while I take the Ninja Coffee Bar System for a test drive.   I have...
