An Overnight in Boston

Last weekend five couples gathered in Boston for a winter getaway.  We stayed in a terrific part of the city with plenty to do, eat and see!

Our hotel was The Millenium Bostonian, located across the street from the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, an historic and very popular Boston attraction.

The Library Area of the Lobby
The hotel rooms are comfortably appointed.

Cozy and Comfy

I could see the Haymarket when looking out the window.   This wasn't the most picturesque view, but the Haymarket is a farmer's market that has been operating since 1830.  It is open year round on Fridays and Saturdays from dawn to dusk.  Can you see the huge artichoke display below?

Across the street from our hotel was the historic Faneuil Hall Marketplace, home of Faneuil Hall, a meeting hall since 1742 that is still used today.  We stopped by the Great Hall to listen to the very informative talk about the hall's historic significance.

And then some shopping in the stores at Quincy Market.

Then we were off on the T, Boston's subway... We took the green line, outbound....

The "T"

...to Boston's Theater District.

The Busy Theater District
It was so cold and windy that when I tried to take a picture of the theater entrance the wind blew the cord from my camera right out straight...horizonatally...wind gusts up to 58 mph and 16 degrees F...Brrrr!!

A Blustry Night
In spite of the wind and cold, we made it to the Charles Playhouse to see Shear Madness which holds the Guinness Book record for longest running play in America.

The production of Shear Madness was enjoyed by all.  It is filled with humor and surprises.  You should go if you get the chance.  You will have a fun time.

Next was a delicious dinner at Trattoria Il Panino on 11 Parmenter Street.

The restaurant is very tiny.  We were a little early for our 9:00 PM reservation and the restaurant is so small that we had to go next door to wait.  When seated we walked past the celebrity wall....

...and down the narrow stairs to the very dark basement where several tables were crowded together in a very small space.  The very delicious meal more than made up for the atmosphere.  I had the salmon, which was perfectly prepared.

The weekend getaway concluded with a casual breakfast in Quincy Market where we had our choice of breakfast items from several food vendors.  We ate under the dome of the Market building enjoying the historic surroundings and spirited conversation.

Boston is a fabulous city for a weekend getaway in the winter, summer, spring or fall.  I'm already looking forward to next time.
