Steals and Deals: A Magazine Rack for Your Bathroom

This post contains affiliate links.  I thank you for making a purchase through one of these links.  The few pennies I will receive will help to maintain this blog.

Sometimes the fact that I am the only female living in a male dominated home reveals itself in mundane ways.  One of those ways is the stack of reading materials that grows and grows in the bathrooms.  Do you know what I am talking about?  There are magazines on the back of the toilet.  There are magazines on the floor.  There are magazines on the vanity.  I'm forever picking up, stacking and culling magazines in the bathroom.  That is until my most recent purchase, wall mounted magazine racks.  Finally, an answer to the disorganization caused by reading materials in the bathroom.

My search for a wall mounted magazine rack revealed that there are not many options.  I found two excellent choices, one of which is a steal. (As of 4/3/2016 all of these racks remain available.) The first option can be found at Restoration Hardware for $125.00.  The Chatham combination magazine rack and tissue holder is attractive, easy to mount on the wall and is of excellent quality.

A second choice for a very similar combination rack and tissue holder can be found at several stores including Walmart for $35.97 and Overstock.com for $40.78.  These prices make this rack the "steal"!

The "steal" rack has an inch wider footprint than the Chatham rack and is mounted to the wall with visible screws.

The Chatham rack slides onto hidden mounting disks and has a cleaner look on the wall.

Which did I purchase?  I bought them both.  My newly remodeled powder room has raised panels that are too narrow for the "steal".  The Chatham rack fits perfectly.

My upstairs bathroom was also in need of reading material organization, so the "steal" rack has found a home there.

Which should you buy?  In my opinion, both are excellent organizational options for your bathroom.  The "steal" rack wins as the overall preference because of the quality, functionality and the price.  If the size of the rack is a concern for you as it was for me in my powder room, then the Chatham rack may be the right choice for you.  It is excellent quality and very attractive, but you'll pay more.

If you like this magazine rack you may also like this deal for a wall mounted cabinet.

    1. I fought a losing battle over the bathroom reading clutter for years. I'm much happier now with the organization from the rack.

  3. Donna, I am looking at both of these also. Is the RH one heavier than the OI one? What about the finish? Are both
of these in chrome? Does the finish and overall quality of the OI holder seem more cheaply made? These are all similar to the Samuel Heath Novio. One more question. I see that the RH has somewhat of a back, holditng the magazines away from the wall. What about the OI? Do the magazines lean against the wall? I know that the RH holder is brass with heavy plating and the OI is tubular steel. I am not certain how much of a difference that actually makes. Pottery Barn sells something similar, fyi. Thanks for your help.

  4. Hi Cornelia. The RH rack is a bit sleeker than the "steal" rack. Both are chrome and look shiny and bright. The magazines lean in both, but are a bit more upright in the RH rack. I have owned the RH rack for longer than the "steal" rack and it continues to look bright and shiny. I continue to think both are great options and if price is a major factor the "steal" is definitely a good buy. I hope this helps.

  5. Donna,e I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate all of the knowledge you have shared with me about these racks. I could not have done it without you. I just purchased the "deal" rack. Now this rack is sold in different places over the internet and the original site that I saw it was on Ebay. I looked there and saw that it was $55, I then thought I should check back to see what you had paid. REALLY appreciate the links. I ended up purchasing from Walmart for $35 and free shipping. I would have never have thought to look there if you had not done the legwork for me.

I also want to tell you that I really appreciate the time and energy that you put into this blog. It provides a wealth of information and you write in such an enjoyable fashion. I know it can be very time consuming to write in such a thoughtful manner and I, for one, am very grateful.
