The pomegranate cosmopolitan is a favorite of mine this time of year because of the the deep red color from the pomegranate juice.
Here's how we make it for our Just One Donna parties.
The Pomegranate Cosmo
- 2 parts mandarin or orange flavored vodka
- 2 parts Pom pomegranate juice
- 1 part Cointreau
- 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
- Lime slices for garnish
Early in the day prepare your martini glasses by first rubbing the rim with the cut side of a lime and then dipping the rim in red sugar to coat. Prepare lime slices for your garnish. This will make a very festive presentation for your cocktail.
Fill a cocktail shaker half way with ice. Add the ingredients and shake vigorously to chill and dilute the drink. Strain the cocktail into your prepared martini glass. Garnish with a slice of lime and serve.
You may want to adjust the amount of lime juice to get the right level of tartness for you own taste. These proportions are just right for me, so I suggest you start there.
When hosting a holiday gathering for a group you can make your cocktail ahead of time in a pitcher using the same proportions. For example to serve four:
1 cup (8 ounces) mandarin or orange flavored vodka
1 cup (8 ounces) Pom pomegranate juice
1/2 (4 ounces)cup Cointreau
1/2 (4 ounces)cup freshly squeezed lime juice, usually 2-3 limes
You'll want to shake each drink individually before serving to get the proper dilution from the ice.
The Pomegranate Cosmo is a festive cocktail that packs a punch. As a responsible host you'll want to warn your guests that these are potent cocktails meant to be sipped.
