Time to Get Real!

Oh my! Oh my goodness!  Do you ever feel like......oh my?

It started for me the day I went shopping and tried on bathing suits.  ....Oh my!

Then my brother called.   "Don't you think you have been putting a lot of fattening recipes on your blog, Sis?" he asked me.  "Yes," I replied.  "Yes, I have,"  I agreed.  Comfort foods having been getting the best of me lately.  ...Oh my goodness!

As February comes to a close it's time to focus on my calorie intake and healthy eating.  I'm going to focus on healthy food, exercise and motivating myself to take better care of me.  Do you feel like you need to do the same?  Today I'm jump starting the process.  Here's what I'm doing.

Dinner
I keep the freezer stocked for days like today when I'm not cooking.  I keep a variety of Lean Cuisine meals on hand so I can have a quick and tasty low calorie meal.
Lean Cuisine Chicken with Basil cream Sauce frozen dinner (250 calories), 1 cup steamed broccoli topped with 1 slice American cheese, melted (133 calories), six asparagus spears (22 calories).

Dessert
I'm having a dessert made with 3/4 cup frozen berries (68 calories) topped with 1 container of Yoplait No Fat Vanilla yogurt, sprinkled with a dusting of cinnamon (100 calories).  Putting it in a fancy glass makes it seem like a more decadent treat.

Exercise

I am going to the gym for my standard rowing and treadmill workout

  2. I have tried to use more egg whites in my egg sandwiches and omelets. I substitute mashed cauliflower for mashed potatoes and I loved the tomato soup so much, I made a double batch for this week's lunches and dinners. Oh by the way, the broccoli soup in the blog today looked not as creamy as my recipe, do you have a low cal recipe??

  3. Stay tuned, Robin. My broccoli soup recipe is coming in March. The soup you saw pictured in the blog post has 95 calories per serving because I don't add cream. I just use my immersion blender and enjoy it without the added calories.

  4. I will be looking forward to the low cal broccoli soup recipe. I am so glad to have a few soup recipes that have the taste of high cal soups but not the calories.

  5. Ya know people like the comfort food. Even if they don't eat it they like to read about it and think about it. I would mix it up and not go all the way healthy!

  6. Sue-anne, you are so right. Balance and moderation are key. After all, most of us are constantly trying to fight the good fight with our weight and health. More yumminess to come as well!
